A couple days ago I saw an article in About Lawsuits that shared report findings on the current status of staffing ratios in nursing homes.
According to the article, “only 30% met the certified nursing assistant (CNA) hour’s requirement, highlighting long-standing staffing retention issues in nursing homes and long-term care facilities.”
This is no surprise to us, we’ve been short-staffed even way before COVID-19 hit. Honestly the answer to this retention issue is simple: PAY US BETTER and offer us better benefits! A real living wage will help keep CNAs in nursing homes!
A lot of nursing homes are starting off CNAs at really low pay, and it’s obvious that it’s not attracting workers.
Not only will this keep us happy at work, this will also benefit the residents, because they will have the attention and care that they deserve.
What do you think about this new federal staffing mandate? Have you seen a difference at your nursing home?
